Boosting your Immune System

This post was sparked by me doing some research for myself.
I've been on 2 lots of antibiotics since the beginning of January, in the space of 5 weeks. And I've been feeling pretty crappy since. I'm tired, cranky and just out of sorts. Its so unlike me to get so sick twice within a couple of weeks. So I knew my Immune System was at rock bottom and I had to do something about it. I am only at the beginning of trying these things out myself so I will do a blog post in a few weeks to update you all on how I'm getting on.

First thing is SLEEP.
For your body to function right, you need adequate sleep. So I'm aiming for 8-9 hours sleep a night. Putting my phone away 20 minutes before I finally put my head down to relax, so I can fully switch off.

EXERCISE
Minimum 30 minutes exercise a day is enough to realise the feel good chemicals in your body. And it also helps to keep us trim :) If you don't exercise, your more likely to get colds. And exercise also helps you sleep better.

DIET
I don't mean go on a diet but to alter what you eat. Too much sugar curbs Immune System cells that attacks bacteria. Eat more fruit and Vegetables which are rich in vitamins such as C, E, Beta Carotene and Zinc. So for me this means, more water and more fruit. And maybe adding some smoothies to my diet to help with the intake of fruit and Veg.

STRESS
Chronic stress exposes your body to a steady stream of stress hormones that suppress the immune system. We all have stress in our lives, be it minor everyday stress or more serious stress.
We may not be able to completely get rid of our stress but we can learn to manage it better.
  • Meditate/Yoga
  • Slow down
  • Work Out
  • Connect with other people.

I'm also taking Acidophilus Complete, which is a high potency formula containing 3 strains of friendly micro-organisms. These friendly bacteria colonise the gut and help re-establish and maintain a favourable intestinal flora especially during and after a course of antibiotics.
I take 1 capsule an hour after eating. 3 times a day. So we'll see how that goes.

I've also started drinking Green Tea. Having my first cup while writing this. I put a slice of lemon in it, and its actually quite refreshing.

I'm also going to try and start my day off with a glass of warm water with Lemon.

I will report back in a few weeks to update you all on how I'm getting on :)

Hope this was something you guys were interested in as it is a different kind of post. Ye might even pick up a tip or two. :)
